I posted about my awesome time in Lansing, like, a long time ago. Somehow I forgot about writing about the foodΒΏ? I’m so sorry because it was AMAZING. Every single meal.
I went on the trip knowing that I’d be eating out a lot and not eating my usual amounts of fruits and veggies and that was 100% okay with me because I got to try so many new things. You gotta live a little sometimes.
Breakfasts
I actually brought bags of oatmeal to eat for breakfasts because… I’m not going out to eat in the morning. ha. And terrible lighting because it was still dark out!
Lunches
I was usually right in the capital for lunch. I wish I would have had more meals there because there were SO MANY places I wanted to try. Next year!
This I brought with me on the bus ride down instead of eating at McDon’s.
From lunch at Tom & Chee with Brie! Grilled cheese, soup dipper, salad and DOUGHNUT with mozzarella, pb, banana. yes.
(not mine but so pretty I needed a pic)The best wrap I ever ate. It will be recreated.
Caramel apple pecan pie! This meal was from Grand Traverse Pie. I saved the other half of the wrap and ate it for lunch on the bus ride home!
Dinners
My first SUSHI experience!! Okay actually this was my favorite meal. Mikado Sushi & Grill, I’ll be back.
It wasn’t just the sushi that I loved about this meal. It was the sweet server, the ginger salad, the green tea (that I liked?!) and the miso soup that all came with the meal!!
I had 4 rolls – a squash, green pepper, cucumber, and avocado. The ginger was delish but I didn’t touch the wasabi!
For dessert we had tempura ice cream!
Then they brought us an orange? Love. I was stuffed by the end and it was totally worth it.
Our next dinner was at Zeus’s Coney Island. It was a true greasy, old fashioned place but the food was great.
Our appetizer was the “Saganaki” – imported Kasseri cheese flamed tableside and served with pita. Uh, yeah.
I discovered I like Greek salad and beets! I had a bad experience with beets once – thought they were cranberries at Thanksgiving and took a huge bite – but they’re actually pretty good.
I also had spanakopita which wasn’t the best I’ve had, but still tasty. SO filling.
From a little joint I don’t even know the name of – Pad Thai with tofu. So greasy, so MSG, so don’t care.
From the last night banquet – salad and lasagna. I opted for the veggie instead of meat one.
Other
First time trying Naked Juice. DELICIOUS.
Peanut butter/banana/carob/green/chia smoothie from Juice Nation. More like a milkshake!
I honestly loved getting to try all these new restaurants. (It’s also really cool to go to a place you’ve stalked online and know their whole menu;) It did feel nice to start eating my regular foods again, but it’s a great feeling that I can travel without worrying about what I’ll eat or how healthy or unhealthy it is. Every thought I had was about how excited I was to try new things and not about old ED thoughts, and that’s pretty cool!

Oh my gosh. My mouth is watering. All your food looks delicious! It is so nice to actually go out of town and enjoy your food knowing that you’ll get back on track when you get home. π I always pack oatmeal for breakfast when I am out of town too!
Thanks, Whitney! I absolutely love packing oatmeal! I like it better than the instant packs, and I like adding whatever I want like chia seeds π

WAIT, and I’m also so super happy that you’re simply enjoying all the foods and not worrying about how “good” or “bad” they are. That is such a liberating and amazing thing. β₯ π
