Near the bottom of the Garden Peninsula, on the shores of Big Bay de Noc, you’ll find an old abandoned iron-smelting town called Fayette. People can visit and see the old buildings and get a feel for what life was like in the late 1800’s. Mom and I took a day trip and I took some pictures to share!
After Fayette we went to Kitch-iti-Kipi – Michigan’s largest natural freshwater spring! Also known as The Big Spring, Wikipedia has some cool facts if you want to know more.
These pictures are completely unedited! The water is literally that colorful.
Our day wasn’t complete without food! We stopped at Cedar Street Cafe in Manistique for a tasty meal.
Deep fried mushrooms with homemade ranch
Apple & veggie sandwich on multigrain
And one more pit stop on our way home ?
It was a perfect day trip! How cool that both of these places are less than an hour away from my house. I have more U.P. posts coming up soon! ?

The lake! That spring! Just wonderful. I’ve heard of Crystal Lake but have only seen pictures. How is it that Michigan has these Caribbean looking waters??
