Hello! I hope that everyone had a great fourth. I missed being home for it, but I still had a good time here watching cars go off the cliff π
The most incredible thing has happened since I’ve been in Alaska. I am completely, 100% happy. For the first time in what feels like a long time.
I don’t know what it is, but I get these random feelings where I just can’t help smiling. They come when I’m in the field working at the farm or going to bed at night. On my runs and when I’m relaxing reading a book. Everything here is just amazing. The mountains, the lack of homework and exams, the simple way of living. It will be hard to go home.
Anyway, I have a new round of pictures to share! The pictures are from a couple weeks ago and going through them I already forgot about so much. I can’t believe I’ve already been here a month. I feel like I’ve hardly done anything, but looking back we really did a lot!
(Lots of pictures ahead:)
Hatcher Pass
Hatcher’s Pass is a drive pretty close to our house that has some beautiful views and lots of hiking trails. When we went the rest of the road was blocked off because there was still snow and possible avalanches..but it was still gorgeous!
Cooper Landing
Cooper Landing is my favorite spot to camp. It’s right on Kenai Lake and we went there again a few weekends ago. And they have the best ice cream in the state (in my opinion.)
Seward Highway
We stopped at all the picture spots on the way back from camping.
Whittier
And from there went to Whittier for the day! You have to get there by plane, boat, or driving through a mountain.
We explored around the old military building, the Buckner Building. When it was in use it had a hospital, movie theater, bowling alley, church, library, radio station, and more… I always wonder what it would have been like!
The train was stationed while we were there. The people took it in from Anchorage then got on the cruise ship. Someday I’ll go on an Alaskan cruise!
The train engineer actually let me take the train out of Whittier, so I got to see some pretty cool views.
Since that trip there’s so much more I have to share! I should have some time tomorrow to sort all the pictures and write about it. My mom will be here tomorrow night and we’ll spend the week in Anchorage before flying back to Michigan. I’m not ready to go home yet!!
