A few summers ago I was lucky enough to visit Isle Royale National Park, a bucket list destination for Yoopers & outdoor enthusiasts alike.

One of my childhood friends Brandon invited me to come along for a fishing trip and camping on West Caribou Island. We spent the long weekend fishing, hiking, and exploring one of the most remote and least visited national parks in the US.

We didn’t take the usual ferry or seaplane, but his own boat! We went out of Eagle Harbor. This allowed us to explore the island on our own time and experience the island in a truly unique fashion as we got to see so much from the perimeter on the boat while fishing.

Our last evening was spent at Rock Harbor for a fish fry with many of the current visitors to the park, and I got to explore the most “touristy” part of the island and learn more about its history.

We ate a lot, drank a lot, and I can’t wait to make it back someday.
