I don’t know if I said the specific reason I’ve been gone for a week. I went up to Michigan Tech University for a summer program called Women in Engineering. What an experience it was!
Does anyone else wait as long as possible to sort through trip pictures? Because it’s one of the worst things ever for me. I have so many pictures to share. About halfway through the week I ran out of space on my memory card so I did have to go a little less crazy!
Sunday
Arrive at camp. Meet roommate. Orientation. Play ice breakers to get to know everyone.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
Start engineering explorations and focus projects. We had 9 explorations throughout the week that exposed us to all the different areas of engineering (chemical, mechanical, environmental, electrical, biemedical,etc). We made a ton of cool little things!
Around Campus
I really liked the campus at MTU. It’s not huge and you can walk everywhere, but it’s not so small you can see it all from one spot. Plus they have some awesome running trails!
Picnic at McLain State Park
Monday night all 150 girls went to the park for a cookout (food will be a different post!!) Lake Superior is beautiful!
Lantern Lighting
Wednesday night we all went to the lake to release lanterns. I was just in awe of how breathtaking the water was!
When it was finally dark enough we sent off the lanterns.
That was a fun night. Well worth the late bedtime!
Hiking Trip
On Thursday a few girls went out and hiked at Hungarian Falls!
New Friends
I made a lifetime of new friends. There were so many incredible girls there!
I’m so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience a few aspects of engineering, right at college. It might be my future? π

Engineering is an awesome field to go into! I’ll be a computer science major next year and I love it so much! Plus we could use more smart, beautiful engineer women in this world.

I’m thinking about it! I would get in-state tuition (which is always a plus!), and it’s only 3 hours from home!

This make my heart happy! I’m a recent graduate in Mechanical Engineering. I would love to see so many more girls in Engineering. It’s so much fun and women bring a much needed perspective into the different fields!

I went to that same camp back in 2006! I remember doing earthquake simulations, different types of welding, and making glue out of household staples. While I’m in the nonprofit field now, I graduated with a science degree. So glad you were able to experience Michigan Tech ‘ s campus – it sure is beautiful π
