And I am off to CHICAGO for BlogHerFood15!!! My first blogging conference! I can’t wait to meet everyone and learn and eat delicious food. In the meantime, while I live it up in the Windy City, enjoy this post that I’ve been meaning to write forever. I think you guys will love it!

My friend Olivia and I went on a trip to Mackinac Island a few months ago and had SO. Much. Fun. I hadn’t been there since 4th grade and didn’t remember much of it so it was like being there for the first time all over again! We were big girls and drove there by ourselves ?

Our main priorities while we were there were to bike and eat… I think we accomplished them pretty well.grand hotel beautiful daytimegrand hotel flagsgrand hotel courtyardgrand hotel bedroomleigha at restaurantTruffle fries and pierogies at Millie’s on Mainfries and pierogiesAfter that we got some ice cream then biked the island!

ice creamolivia ice creamfort mackinacIMG_0655There are no cars allowed on the island. Bikes are everywhere! A horse and carriage is also a popular way to get around, so I think it’s obvious what there’s also a lot of ??mackinac island main sthorsesarch rock mackinac islandmackinac island bike pathIt’s about 8 miles round trip around the island – no problem! We took lots of picture breaks, of course.leigha olivia waterolivia waterleigha mackinac bridgemackinac bridge lake huronleigha looking at bridgeOnce we were back where we started we walked up and down the main street, wandering in all the nook and cranny little shops and wishing we could afford it all! Mackinac Island is famous for its fudge and there are tons of places where you can watch them make it. And get free samples πŸ˜€

Eventually we made it back to the hotel and got ready for dinner.leigha olivia grand hotelleigha olivia fancy dinnerThe Jockey Club was fantastic and one of the fanciest meals I’ve ever had! We started with steamed edamame (which neither of us knew how to eat..) then split a pasta with pancetta and pork belly(!!) and a burger with a whole bunch of gourmet toppings. Neither of us are huge meat eaters but wanted to have the full experience. SO worth it. Amazing.steamed edamamefancy pasta pancettaolivia burgerOf course dessert!

leigha dessertAfter dinner there was music and dancing at the Grand. I felt like I was back in time with the live music and how you have to dress up in order to get in. I love it.

From there we took out the bikes again for the night time scene. The island is so much different as all the day visitors were gone. It felt like we owned the island! We must have gone up and down every street there is. Eventually it became 2 in the morning and we stopped at the only place that was open. (besides the bars… they wouldn’t let us in.;)

IMG_0670And then we were back in the room for just a few hours of sleep. Breakfast was the buffet in the Grand Hotel. Pretty overwhelming (so many people) and very yummy!

grand hotel breakfastgrand hotel breakfasttIt rained the whole morning so we stayed in the Grand and explored. We went in the library and read books for a few hours. When it finally cleared up, we went and got one more meal before we left for the mainland!

lunch at mackinac islandPink Pony was amazing.

And for one last bonus meal we got froyo!

leighas first froyoMight I just add that it was my first time having froyo.. EVER. I can see how it gets so expensive! It was well worth it though:)froyoAnd then it was time to head back. It started pouring while we were on the ferry and stormed the whole way home, but what can you do!

lol hairIt was a quick weekend adventure and one of the best memories from summer. Here’s to many more adventures!

What a fabulous recap for us. Love how you girls had an adventure all your own. Pictures are stunning, the hair one cracked me up! I was in Mackinac Island years ago when I was probably 11 or 12 years old (we are talking decades ago). Definitely time to check it out again.
